The Huntsville City Classic by the Player Rankings
By the Global Grassroots state player rankings, most teams have someone that has been or is ranked in the state of Alabama which we will pinpoint for fun of the Huntsville City Classic and see if any of the match ups will shake up the state player rankings which will be done the day after the Huntsville City Classic
Lee vs Sparkman: Lee- Huntsville Chase Stewart was ranked last year. The 6’5 CG is working his way back from an injury currently and we hope to see him playing on Thursday. The eighth grader Eric Foster III is currently ranked in his respective class as the #11 player. The young shooter has been heavily relied on early this season. This will be a match-up that we’ve seen already and it worked out in Sparkman's favor. Sparkman’s Ty Pace, 2028 CG checks in at #17, 6’3 G Blake Bell at #25, and 6’2 CG Landon Howard checks in at #26. These three freshman guards are all wired to score.
Grissom vs Hazel Green: Neither Grissom nor Hazel Green have a player ranked in the Global Grassroots State Player Rankings. With that being said, both have 2 of the best PG’s in North Alabama in 25’ PG Javon Alexander of Grissom and 26’ PG Austin Nance. The Addition of 6’3 Athlete Kahleel Green made an already tough Hazel Green team that much harder to beat. The legendary Coach Doss will always be a factor on the sideline with his wealth of knowledge and style of play
Buckhorn vs Florence: Buckhorn may have one of the most ranked players in the event. #16 Jeremiah Wilson 25’ 6’5 CG has been solid all year filling the stat sheet and making winning plays while showing his growth. #20 25’ PG 5’11 Fred Fred is one of the best point-guards in the state and always seems in control. 26’ 6’5 W Lee Garcia comes in at #15 coming off a good performance this past weekend at Jasper shooting lights out. #19 26’ 6’4 W Josh Wilkerson also had a huge game this weekend at the Jasper event. Florence has a guard by the name of Bryant James, 25’ 6’1 PG, who is not on the rankings but will be on the rankings as soon as we update. This kid can go. One of the best shooters in the state. He also plays with an edge that PG’s need. 25’ 6’7 CF Jaylen Chandler currently holds down the #22 spot with his versatility and high energy on both sides of the ball.
James Clemens vs Fairfield: These teams have already played twice with Fairfield and legendary Coach Ford coming out on top in both games. This is another horrible match-up in the first round by the way. James Clemens senior guard 6’2 London Townsend isn’t ranked yet but is easily one of the best scorers in the state. 27’ 6’6 CF Alexander Blue checks in at the #12 spot. He is a force and is only getting better. He can make plays inside out. 26’ 6’1 PG Isaiah Cleaves comes in at #17 with his energy and athleticism from the point-guard spot. Fairfield’s senior guard 6’ Dee Williams is one of the most effective guards in the state, though not ranked. The kid is a winner and does everything for his team. 26’ 6’5 Milton Jones is ranked #7 and holds down the paint for the State Champions. He’s a versatile force that uses his athleticism to make an impact. 27’ 5’10 PG Eric Williams is the #20th ranked player in his class. This kid is a smooth operator.
Mae Jemison vs Bob Jones: Mae Jemison has 25’ 6’6 W Dekarion Bryant ranked #21 in the state and 25 6’5 CF TJ Pruitt #23 in the state. Both provide versatility, with the ability to score in the paint and on the perimeter. The freshman 6’4 G Cortez Hudson comes in ranked #7 in his respective class with his size, motor, and impact being a factor for Jemison. Bob Jones only has one ranked player on their team in the state, but he’s arguably the best player in the state. 25’ 6’6 PG Kaden Rickard is the best player in the tournament but is currently ranked #5. He can dominate every facet of the game and he does it with a level of ease and grace that’s satisfying to watch.
Enterprise vs Ramsay: Enterprise is always in the conversation late in the season. Coach Rhett always has his young men ready to battle. They have one ranked player, 26’ 6’5 SG Tucker Wadsworth and he’s the #3 player in his class. This kid is a physical SG who can score on all three levels. His shot-making ability makes him and his team lethal. Ramsay has 25’ 6’6 W/G smooth operator Jayden Williams and he’s ranked #13 in his class. 26’ PG Jay Green is the general for his Ramsay team and he’s #4 in his class. 26’ 6’ PG Jeremiah Williams is another ranked backcourt member for Ramsay and he comes in at #13 in the state. Last but not least 28’ 6’2 G DJ Jiles is ranked #6 in his class.
Columbia vs Thompson: Columbia currently doesn’t have a ranked player on the Global Grassroots State Player Rankings, but has a lot of young talent that is always in attack mode and plays fearless. Thompson has 28’ 6’ CG Landyn Smith ranked #10 in his class. 27’ 6’2 SG Riley Bryant and 6’4 CF Cam Pritchett are fresh off of football state championship wins on the court. Riley is ranked #2 and Cam is #5 in their class.
Huntsville vs Austin: Let me start by saying this is the worst game that could go on based on last year they both played in the championship game of the most prestigious tournament in the state. Now, Huntsville has one of the best teams in the country. Ranked #16 in the country by Max Preps and is coming in undefeated. 25’ 6’5 SG Simon Walker comes in at the #2 spot in our state rankings. 25’ 6’5 CG John David Gossett is currently #8 but will move up after we update the rankings after this tournament. 25’ 6’6 W Brayden Rivers comes in at #14. Watch your head, close out fast. 25’ 6’9 PF Josh Bowman is currently #17 and that’s too low. The 2027 class has 6’8 PF Evan Thoms ranked #6 and 6’ CG Hudson Gossett ranked #11. 6’2 Tray Pannell is ranked #4 in the state in the 2028 class for the Panthers. 25’ PG Eli Stapler has been one of the most improved players this year. Austin’s 2026 6’7 PF Caiden Ricks is currently ranked #8 in his class. This kid has upside for days and will be moving up. 28’ 5’9 PG Landyn Williams is ranked #16 and 28’ PG Kaden Lewis comes in at #30 for Austin.
These rankings are based on the Global Grassroots State Player Rankings. The Rankings will be updated after the Huntsville City Classic.
